Everytime I boot into windows right at the windows splash screen my hard drive stops reading and starts reading the CD-ROM. It didn't do this until I put my config.sys and autoexec.bat files into the exit to dos file under windows. Now it keeps doing this. Also yesterday I shut down my computer and everything was fine before and when I shut her down. Today when I turned her on for the first time she would not read the hard drive and it kept asking for a boot disk. I took my hard drive out of the computer and hooked it up to the slave line and tried to auto detect it but still nothing. I also tried it on the secondary master and sec slave and still nothing. I hooked it back up to the primary master after all of that and she detected perfect. Can any body explain what is going on.
I have a pentium 200 MMX
64 mb ram
two cd-roms 24x & 40x
soundblaster 16 sound card
s3 virgedx video adapter
4.3 gb hard drive

Did you try putting the autoexec and config back where they were?

sounds like the resources for your soundcard specified in auto/conf are incorrect.
REM out all lines to do with audio in both files.
boot into windows.
check in device manager for the correct IRQ, DMA(s), and IO (s).
edit the lines in start-up to reflect this.
Un-REM and try.
these lines are put in by the audio card application suite usually - not by installing the device itself. So if windows plug-and play moves resources around to accomodate a new device, these lines do not get the benefit of the change and must either be manually edited or the application software unistalled then re-installed, at which point the latest resource settings are picked up from windows .
i find it easier to edit, or better still don't use them at all but put them in the pif ( which is where we came in!!)
