formatting ipod shuffle

can someone tell me how do i get songs from my computer onto my ipod. I downloaded the driver that allows the ipod to be read as a removable disc, but when i drag and drop onto the ipod, the ipod does not recognise them... Do i need to sync the ipod to my computer, or format it ? Was about to download Win Media Player ver 9, or is there a better alternative.

That's not helping !!.. firstly, which instructions ?.. and second.. as we are not all tech experts, the info would mean nil to me. Can someone simply explain what i must do to listen to a song ??
