In the process of reformatting my kid's HD, I was able to delete and repartition the HD, but now when I try to install windows, I won't work. Now when I try to run FDISK, it reports thaty there are no hard drives on the system.

You will get the best possible SPECIFIC help if you provide details about your Computer and the Device (in this case the Hard Disk)having problem with clear presentation of the problem without assuming that the readers are familar with your system or the specific problem.:-) For researching answers for various questions, a Search Engine like Google.Com will be the best first step even though it might take you through a number of webpages before you find the page that may be most relevent to your situation. If your question and specifiactions are vague (although it may be very clear to you)the best anyone can suggest, is a reference source which covers a wide area, that might include answers to your question also. Good luck in your troubleshoot and hope you can fix it soon.:-)

If the bios doesn't see the drive, fdisk won't either. So go into cmos and make sure the drives are identified properly--usually as AUTO--and that both IDE controllers are enabled.
If that doesn't do it open the case and verify the cables and jumpers are correct--probably not necessary unless someone was already inside there. But make sure the cables are tight.
If that doesn't help the drive may be dead. You may be able to hold it close to your ear and listen to see if you can hear it spin up. If it is, that won't guarantee it's good, but if it's not then it's either dead or a bad power connection.
