This site has been recommended before, it has a section on installing 95 that includes boot disk, CD-ROM access, etc. Maybe it will help.

http://www.freespeech.org/patw/index.html

Also, you can download boot disks with CD support from here:

http://www.bootdisk.com/

But I wish you would just reinstall 98, it works fine. And it will usually make you a good boot disk with CD-Rom support.

I'm with Don. Downloading it is your best option.

Also, do not ever install Win95 using a Win98 startup disk. There are documented errors that can occur if you do.

If you're interested in knowing how to make your own Win95 startup disk with CD-ROM support, have a look at the following site.

http://skwc.com/Prepare/startdisk.html

Cheers.

If you created a Win 98 Rescue/Startup disk when you installed 98. Put that in the drive and then turn the pc on. It will say starting pc, then a screen will appear with 3 options. Select option #1, that starts the pc with CD-ROM support. The rest of the disk will load and when you're at the a: prompt type HELP. Follow the steps from there to reformat the hard drive. Don't try to use a Win 95 rescue/startup disk because they're not the same. If you didn't make a startup disk when you installed 98, but Win 98 is working well enough to do it. You can make a startup disk by clicking on My Computer, then Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs, click on Startup Disk tab.
Hope this helps. Cindy

MAJOR CORRECTION!!! THE INFORMATION ABOVE WAS NOT INTENDED FOR YOUR SITUATION. I am very, very sorry for my mistake. This information was intended for a person who wanted to format their hard drive to reinstall Windows 98. I write my helps using notepad, then I copy them from notepad into the forums. I submitted it to your thread in error. It took me several hours to realize my mistake. If you have already followed the steps, it will not harm your hard drive, but you will have to fdisk/format again using the Windows 95 version of those commands, before installing Windows 95. Again I apologize. I feel really badly about this. Cindy

Your hard drive (C:/) is not accepting the information you type in because you will need to reboot your system with a windows 95 boot disk with a cd-driver as part of that boot disk.
Visit bootdisk.com and you can download a rescue boot from there.
Once you have downloaded your rescue boot turn off your PC and place your floppy into the floppy drive...
simply follow the prompts starting with CD-Ro support and windows should restart..

I have a computer that I am going to do a full format of the hard drive. Once he drive is clean, how do I reload Win 95 with my CD rom? I have an emergency boot disk. Will it reactivate my CD ROM?
