Reply: (edit)If you have to ask what partitioning is then i wouldnt recommend you install linux just yet until you have had time to learn more what goes on in windows.. some linux distributions have excellent partitioning tools that simplify this process.. check your cd for these tools.. also check your linux installation manual.. it is very detailed in the process of adding both operating systems to one drive

Reply: (edit)make sure u have a windows boot disk preferably Win98 with CDrom support. Format your harddrive (which is presumably C:\ if you don't know what partitioning is) After the drive is formated, start your computer with the Win98 statup disk. Run Fdisk.exe which will bring you into partitioning utilities. Create a primary partition and then a secondary partition. (Size depends on your hd and DOS) Load Windows on one partition and Linux on the other, then create a dual boot. good luck, if u don't know what u are doing, u're gonna have to try a couple times... don't get frustrated.

Reply: (edit)I've done it with Mandrake 7.2. It couldn't have been much simpler, just make sure you have a good backup of all your important files. I would definately recomend Mandrake as a first choice for having a go with. Also, have a good read of things, if you only want to have a quick look to see what Linix is like, try using the linux4windows thingmy jigger before you get too involved and end up with a mess on your hands. (I speak from experience, I totally effd up my first attempt.. but I was a fool in how I did it, out of mere frustration with windows...) Make sure you understand what is going on before you start.
