Can you give a brief indication why you had to reformat (it might give us a clue)?

Could be a RAM issue. You could try cleaning edge connectors with a pencil eraser and/or one stick at a time in first position.

The other possibilities are bad disk or drive.

it origiinal came with 98se but my friend tryed to put office 2000 on it. and it wouldn't work so i used the recovery disk to bring it back to its original 98se ive tryed it several times it gets to a certain point and the systen will lock up.. i tryed using MY 98 SE and it will load it on there but when u have to restart the system to finish the process it will say windows is starting for the first time and then it gives me the screen to boot up in normal .. safe mode etc.. i click on normal and it says theres a error in windows it

My guess is putting W2k in left something behind. Restore disks vary from computer to computer. Do you know if yours reformats as part of the process? If so then forget the above. Otherwise reformat/restore might be the way forward but you loose your own stuff.

See what others think first.

I would do fdisk then reformat and re-install as Derek suggested. You may need to get a win 98 bootdisk from......

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Note:You will need Win98se OEM. This is only a file.

You double click on it to make
your bootable floppy disk.

When you use it to boot with, CDrom support is the correct option.

Scope for a bit of confusion here:

"Note:You will need Win98se OEM. This is only a file."

I think street1 meant "the bootdisk" is only a file (you have to create the actual disk, as he said).

You will need a Win98SE OEM CD "as well" (one with a Product Key).

"Note: When you go to bootdisk.com You will need a Win98se OEM bootdisk which when downloaded is a executable file used to make your floppy bootdisk."

Sorry- Derek and vonniereynolds....my original (Note:)was sure lacking.

Thank You for the backup, Derek.
