Format.com or Format.exe??

Which file am i supposed to have on my bootdisk in order to run a format of my hard drive? The only file i find on my computer is format.com however everywhere i see a people saying to copy format.exe to the disk...is there even a format.exe?? thanks

Is there anywhere where i can find a format.exe file? It is not on my win98 boot disk and i search my hard drive for it and its not there, all i have is format.com...are you sure they are not the same thing? they are both executable...if not, where can i find the .exe ?

I guess these people are trying to tell us something, but I don't know what. I don't find format.exe on my computer or start up disk either. I think format.com is the only one you need to be concerned with.

The program that you want to use is format.com in the c:\windows\command folder

It doesn't really matter. If you are going to format put the windows98 startup disk in, the one that you should have made at the beginning, and boot from it. The file is on the disk in a .cab file and run by just typing the format command without the extension.

sometimes people make the mistake of just typing in format in the A:\ drive. you must type in (FORMAT C:\)
