Floppy drive searches for no reason

Periodically, at random times, my floppy drive starts up and tries searching, even though there is no disk in the drive. What could be causing this??? It doesn't seem to bother anything, but it just doesn't seem right!

Thanks for the lead--I checked the post, but I do not use a virus scan and my task scheduler is set for once a week early in the AM for scandisk. So, I need some more ideas.

When this happens, are you browsing for file(s)? Are you doing anything in particular each time? Try going into the BIOS and disabling "search (or scan)for floppy drive at startup".

The floppy drive searches at completely random times--not necessarily when I am browsing for files. I might be in the middle of a spreadsheet or on Internet--doesn't make any difference. It might go for days without doing it and then do it several times in a day. It really isn't bothersome but it isn't normal and I don't like things that are not normal! If I were to disable "search for floopy drive at startup" in the BIOS, wouldn't that prevent the use of a startup disk? I guess I could change the BIOS back if I needed to use a floppy startup disk, though. Thanks.

I recently got a new PC, I installed Norton Anti-Virus, and my PC regularily checks the floppy drive, even if there's no disk. It seems to be random, but I need a solution. Someone help.
