I'm curious to know if there are any floppy disks with a higher stoage memory than 1.44MB, other than zip disks. I know I should be using CDs but I havent got a writer!

With the right tools, floppies can be formatted to 1.7MB or even 2.33MB. The former is known as DMF (Dense media Format) and the second is done with your system's compression utility.
Herne Data Systems (used to?) make a free utility to format to DMF. It was called Maxi-Disk.

Another option is to use a small freeware program called The File Splitter, which is found here http://www.dekabyte.com/filesplitter/ it splits the files up into 1.44mb chunks which can be put on however many floppys the size of the file is, and then it has a small program built into it which can reassemble the file. It`s a nifty little program.

There are (were?) 2.88Mb floppies, but you would need a 2.88Mb floppy disk drive.
Going beyond the 'standard' 1.44Mb is possible, but there's often a tradeoff - as well, standard disk repair tools may not work
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

There is a program in windows itself. To compress drives. Works on floppys and hard drives. but wouldnt suggest it on hard drives. gets it up over the 2MB mark. Should find it in system tools.
