OS 98se. When I click on the "My Computer" icon on Desktop the My Computer window appears but the Floppy Disk 3.5(A)drive is not available for selection. Recently I ran Scandisk & Defrag: I wonder if they had anything to do with the disappearence,in any case all advice and suggestions to recover the Floppy Disk facility most welcome. Thanks in Advance. DA.

Some things to check: 1. Run a virus scan. 2. Shut down, open the computer and verify that the cables to the drive are securely plugged in on both ends. 3. Connect a known good drive to your cables and see if it runs. 4. Check the BIOS setup to see that the drive is indicated as being on board. Sometimes these settings mysteriously get changed. Run in the order shown checking after each one to see if the drive returned. If none of this works, you may have lost the controller.
Further to my original post my problem has been solved by using information from the computing.net Site Search relating to Floppy Disks a post dated 20th.1999. via Device Manager I selected "Update Drive" windows did a download and reported the latest edition was already on my computer. I restarted the computer, selected the "My Computer" icon on the desktop this showed the My Computer window and there before my very eyes was the Removable Disk (A) icon, seemingly windows had reinstalled the drive for me.Thanks to the computer.net search site and all who contribute to this exellent site. A special Thanks to Chris B for the prompt response to my post. DA.
