Hi.
I have an AOpen / Acer Mainboard with an AMI-BIOS Version date 7/15/95.
I have downloaded the flash upgrade utility for the BIOS, but I am a bit skiddish about going ahead and upgrading.
My reasons? I have heard some real horror stories about system crashes, not being able to boot, etc.
Can someone tell me if they have used a flash upgrade to upgrade their BIOS, and do I have any thing to worry about?
True, I have had no real problems with my BIOS, it is just that I am the "UPGRADE" sorta guy.
Thanks for any help.
Michael

Go back to AOpen's site and read the readme's, very carefully.
Which motherboard? You have to get the upgrade for the specific bios and board model, it makes a difference.
If the flash won't fix a problem, don't flash. Upgrading the bios is easy if you follow the directions carefully, also easy to fry it if you mess up.

Yes I have flashed my bios. But only because I could not get my usb's to work correctly. You think you are skiddish I had downloaded the upgrade week and waited until I had one of those days when just about everything went right. Knowing fully that if I messed things up I might not be able to get my computer back to the way it was. Take to heart the advice above. I guess I was luckly in the fact that I had a dos boot disk and understood dos commands for file names and extensions to make a back up. Even then if something happens after the upgrade you will be stuck with the thought of it being caused by the upgrade or if it would of happen anyway, to me it just isn't worth the headache. Make your own grass green and don't worry about what's on the other side.
