When displaying files in either explorer or windows (my computer, etc.) they are sorted by size and I want them by name. Even "My Computer" in not in drive order. Any window, like when you are attaching files to email, is in size order. I have selected the name column & went to view>arrange icons>by name, but when you close the window and re-open, they are by size. I went to folder options and made all folders like current with the window in name order, no luck. I also reset all folders and then reorginized with it in name order, not then either. I even opened my computer and my documents, sorted by name and rebooted with the windows open, and they still came back after reboot in size order. I have no idea what happened or what else to do!!!! Anyone?

Hi.
Have you tried the straight forward way, click on My Computer / right click on an empty part of the screen / and select save icons by Name there.
If that doesn't work, go to Start / Run / and type sfc [ For a system File check ]
Have a nice day.

In ME....TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS - VIEW, set the check next to REMEMBER EACH FOLDERS VIEW SETTINGS.
98 may be similar. If it's not that you will have to wait for someone else to come along.

I know you have probably tried all the above but try them in this order:
First make sure you have Auto Arrange unchecked. Then try this:
Assuming that you are arranging by going through the View Menu, try instead, clicking on the column Title bar within the Explorer View pane to arrange everything. Click it again and it will reverse the order that they appear.
Then go to View, Folder Options and select View tab and hit the 'Like current folder' button.

Thanks all of you for the suggestions. None of the above worked for my system. I tried a more extensive search here and got what ended up working for me:
-I right clicked start and selected Explore
-I selected the C drive and went to View and selected details
-I then selected the Name header of the file column to sort by name.
-Then hold Ctrl, then click the "X" to close explorer (don't select exit from the file menu)
-Release the Ctrl button then reboot.I never would have guessed it. I did the trick.
Thanks,
Chris
