My paint program that comes with Windows was working just fine. Then, all of a sudden, I click on File to open a bmp, and the File menu wont come down now. I'm not able to use open any more. I dont know much about computers, and I started messing around to make it work, I got frustrated, and I erased my Paint program & all the dll files that went with it. (stupid, I know. :-( )Then, I downloaded Paint95 from the Microsoft web site. I thought if I started over with a fresh Paint program, it would work. Nope! File still doesnt work on the new Paint95. Help! Please explain what I need to do in plain English step by step. I need this program back up and running soon. I had a Christmas project I was working on that I need to finish SOON!
Thanks,
R.s.v.p

Scan your harddisk for errors, also scan your registry... well, just do a complete tune up on your hardware first...
I have no idea why the menu wouldn't work, but its probaly one of the dynamic link libraries or something...
why use paint, grab yourself something off the net there are tons of painting programs out there has the basic tools of paint plus MORE

Toni - I assume you are using Windows 95. I don't know if this will work or not, but you might try re-installing Windows 95 on top of itself. Do you have the Win 95 CD that came with your computer???

If so, then insert it into your CD ROM and then when it comes up, just type EXIT. Now, Goto START and at the RUN... do a browse to your CD-ROM and look for the file called STARTUP. Click on this file so its entered into the RUN command box and then click OK.
This will start the installation program for Win 95. You want to pick the TYPICAL installation, ok? Don't pick the Custom one or there will be problems, most likely.
Just let Win 95 do a complete re-install.
Boot back up after installing and try your pain program out. Hopefully, Win 95 will re-install Paint and the missing DLL's for you.
I hope these instructions are clear enough!

PS - Jeff is right, there are a lot of other paint programs out there. You might try PAINT SHOP PRO, they have a downloadable trial version, for version 6.0: To get a copy of it, goto:

Its a world better then Windows Paint, although it may take a little figuring out!
Good Luck. Let us know if this works, k?
