I recieved an attached document with my mail. It had a .file extention and as I thought it was a .pdf file I associated it to Acrobat reader. Later it turned out it was a .doc file. I have tried to change the association without any luck. Is there anyone who knows how to do it?

Save the file to your desk top. Then, while holding down the Shift key, right click on it and select "Open with" and choose your word processor. If all is good then close it out, choose Open with again but this time check off the box that says "Always use this program to open this type of file"

First suggestion is very good, and here's yet another way to do it...
Open File Manager and find the file.
Highlight the file, then go to the File menu and click on Associate.
This method will associate ALL PDF files on your computer with Acrobat.
