Comment: My computer locked up and I tried to reboot. I got a file allocation table bad C drive error message. When tryng to use the recovery cd, I got a bad memory image of FAT detected message. When this happened before, I was told a way to still start the recovery cd but I dn't reember what it was. I think I started with F1 button I'm not sure. Help.

Reply: (edit)That's a hard drive error - you likely should boot to DOS and use Scandisk. Possibly it's repairable - if not, installation probably won't go well Science is built up with facts, as a house is with stones. But a collection of facts is not more a science than a heap of stones is a home

Reply: (edit)I think you can press "Del" button and enter BIOS to set starting from recovery cd.

Reply: (edit)Try running SCANDISK first because the error MAY be fixable and because the CD will NOT let you install anything on a bad drive. Plus, let's not jump the gun and do a reinstall that will probably fail until we are sure it's not fixable. Faris,
