Recently got a machine with 98 on it. Want to use it to test Linux out. Is it possible to RESIZE the existing win 98 partition on the HD to create some free space so I can install Linux using FDISK without destroying everything on the drive? If i cant do you know a good free partition utility? I heard partition magic is good but I dont got the cash to buy it. (I know several disro's of linux have a utility to free up space on a partition but I want to do it manually.)

http://www.doslife.com/stuff.html pm4.zip Open and install on 1.44 diskette. It is a dos based PM version for FAT 16 or FAT 32.The risk of loosing data is high if you resize the partition carrying the OS.Make sure you have the Win 98 CD and drivers.Using PM will always be quite an experiment for a beginner. You can make up to 4 primary partitions. The diskette makes it possible to change the active setting from one to the other you choose to boot from. Good luck.

Another (free) to try is Ranish Partition Manager. It can be daunting to a novice user though. (Not saying you are.) You can grab it from my webspace. PART240.zip. Or you can do a web search and grab it from the source. There is a newer version of this, but it's still beta and has bugs yet. And as Petit Jean says; Good Luck.
