I was helping a freind setup a new system(Intel P3 - 533/133pci board. Win98 SE)
we plugged it all in and started laoding software. we got numerous fatal exceptions, illegal operations, and system lockups, as well as random rebooting of the system. I double checked all the settings and jumpers and found J2 and J3 set by the builder to be in the wrong location acording to the motherboard manual. I set them according to the manula and the system wouldnt boot up. i set them back to what the system builder had set them on and it booted, and i no longer got any errors or fatals. And the random slef rebooting seemed to have stopped. Any ideas or info folks? this one has me stumped.

Howdy. Well what was J2 and J3 set at and what where they controlling, just because the user manual says one thing doesn't mean it is always right. I would contact the system builder and ask them why they jumpered the board as they did. What type of FE's where you getting, what type of Illegal Opps...I myself would not trust a system that is brand new and was doing all those things. I can't even start to list what might be the problem since that list would be a very long one, if you can give more details it would help me, help you.

Laters,

Kevin The Tech Dude.

The Tech Dude is right, don't touch it any more and take your pc back. A good place to start is to get the memory changed FE's are normally revolve around memory faults.

Listen to em man! All the above plus heat, bad processor, bad power supply, and more. They're correct, unless you bought it slightly used from a traveling gypsy get it returned ASAP
Hope this helps.
