hi, this is the first time i've used these forums but you guys seem helpful so i'm pinning my hopes of this problem on ulot! :D
I really dont know where to start...
I have a blue screen with the error message:" A fatal exception OE has occured at 0028:C0005338 in VXD VMM (01) + 00004338"
this error will appear and upon its request of pressing a key the computer decides it time to restart! (much to my frustration!)
The computer will be ok for a short while if its the first startup of the day, but after the first error message and subsequent restart i might as well throw the computer out! it will jus keep showing the error message aslong as i let it restart.i've trawled through forum after forum, and although there seems to be alot of helpful information on the whole 'Blue Screen' subject but i cannot decide whats relevent to my problem and whats not! So i've come to you guys for help.
What the hell can i do to stop this error, and whats the cause?
I'm hoping someone can help, and also hold my hand and guide me through to what to do! Maybe this is expecting too much but pleeeeeeeeeeease, its got to the point of throwing the piece of crap out!On another note there are a few other different errors, where the numbers or letters change, but this error is the main and re-offending error so i would like to start by stoppin this.
Other information:
The computer itself is quite old, a good couple of years! Its had its ups and downs, but this is out of the blue, just suddenly decided to act this way!Not sure how accurate thi next lot is but this is what i know im running:
Windows 98 Second Edition
Authentic AMD
AMD-K6-2/500 3D Processor
256MB RAM
Voodoo 3 Video CardI think thats all the info there is, but if any extra is needed then ask!
Thanks for any help you can give me!
Ben

These general problems can be a pain.
If you haven't tried already Shut Down and restart in MS-DOS and type scanreg /fix (hit Return) which will rebuild your registry. Type exit (Return) to restart Windows when it's done. This might help if it happens to be a registry problem.
If you know when this started happening you could try scanreg /restore instead then call up a registry dated just before problem came along. I suspect it is too late for this but thought it worth mentioning.

The error 0E refers to a program trying to access a part of memory it isn't permitted to. There are many potential causes for this, most relating to shoddy software. If you have recently installed a program, uninstalling it may help.
As you seem to be having random error messages, it is very likely to be caused by a memory error. My prefered tool for checking this is Memtest86, this program will create a bootable floppy disk which thouroughly tests you ram. If it finds any errors, then it is likely that your RAM has developed a fault. These can also be caused by processor or power supply.

Could be a corrupted device driver, i would suggest SFC, however that tool may give too many bad answers if you don't run it almost every week. Try it anyway but don't replace anything it reports unless it is an .vxd file.
If it's not hardware, the obvious option is an "over the top" reinstall (which does not loose any files, but may change some minor settings). Find your product key, make a pot of coffee, then put your OS CD in the drive and double click Setup.exe. Make sure that the install folder is C:\WINDOWS and change it to this during install if it wants to put it someplace else.

First off thanks for your help guys! After more searching i found a website that basically said that exact error is to do with the processor over-heating, and to basically clean out all dust.
Going to give it a go, and give all your sujjestions a go, and i'll get back to you with how i get on!
Thanks again for you help!!
Ben
