Howdy, Can you start the system in safe mode? It could be a protected mode driver that 98 installed and is trying to load. To be honest I myself need more details from you. Was this a upgrade or a full install? Anymore info you can give will help.

Laters,

Kevin The Tech Dude.

Hi,

I just got the exact error message as this. I was doing a full install of W98 onto a just formatted C drive.

I can start in safe mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,
I get this error under WIN98 whenever I access a page with 'flash' content. As there is more & more of this around it is getting very annoying!! Even re-installing Win98 & IE5 & Flash has NOT helped. I think I'll try Navigator instead & see if that helps. - I'll ley you know.

It appears as different errors but always vXd vpicd. I've noticed that when I let windows Me handle the virtual memory it happens less often and it seems to be related to the computer not releasing ram. Several times before the message I got a you are low on memory message. It also is related to the CD. I noticed when a CD is in the drive, even if I'm not using it, it happens far more often. I'm going to try to swap around my ram chips(got 256Meg) with a 933 Mhz. Also Microsoft had a fix related to it I found once, but have been unable to find again. It was for this error but related to something else. If someone understands what is happening, email me.
Finally, I also used the msconfig program under run to delete every unnecssary startup file and that substantially reduced the incidence of crashing. Good luck
