AT shutdown that blue screen pops up with the error message. Sometimes I have to hit a key more than once to get it to shut down. A couple of times after i get past the blue screen the screen fills up with white periods over black and i have to hit the power button to get it to shut off!
While i'm using the system though it runs fine!
please help me...

Howdy, Is it a OE or OD error? If OD update you're video card drivers. If its a OE let me know.
Laters,
Kevin The Tech Dude.

I'll go out on a linb and say I think you probably have a CMI8330 soundcard (or some other CMI sound card) , try setting your wave out device in Multimedia under control panel from "Windows Sound System" to "SB-16 Wave Out" and see how it goes.
Good Luck
Moadib.

My computer does the same thing, except the error says "Fatal exception 0E has occured at" and then a long mem. address. Help!!!

Hi,
Every time I shutdown win98 Second Edition I get the following error can anyone advice:-
Fatal Error 0028.C005IEF in VXD VMM (01) + 00004IEF.
Please Help !!

I have a nice fun OD shutdown error for Win98 too. I get the dreaded blue screen of death everytime I try and shut down. Win 98 fakes me out - plays the shutdown tune, seems to close out fine then BAM! Blue Screen. It is always OD 25 blah blah 7C0. And then I have to turn the power off to do anything. Then there is like the really long scan disk and all that.
I have tried EVERYTHING and am at my wits end. I have two hard drives. I have a network. I have reconfigured everything. Nothing works. What is the difference between an OE and OD error?

there is fatal exception error 06 has occurred at 0000:00000809 at every time shutdown of win98

there is a patch available by microsoft, it works better after the patch.
it's called: 239887up.exe (491kb)
I stll have it,mail me if you can't find it.

i have windows 98 second edition and every once and a while when i shut down itll say fatall exeption bla bla and i have to turn it off.pleeeeaasassss help. i tried calling gateway they said its being researched or somthing

Like all the above, I have the same fatal exception error when I try to shut down. Personally, I think we are all being screwed by Microsoft.

I have Win 98 SE, and ever since I put a CDRW drive in the box i've been getting "exception 06 at 0000:0000F84A" at shutdown when the system has been up for a while... sorta similar to what you guys got goin on. I pretty sure it's the CDRW Drive's fault thow in my case... or something the drive has done. I've have much other trouble with the CDRW in Win98 other than this.. heh, this one's the least of my problems. Anywho, Microsoft is just a money greedy company like the rest of them, focusing more on profit for the next quarter instead of product quality.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. IT IS 239887UP.exe. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND IT AT THE UPDATE SITE.IF YOU FIND IT EMAIL ME AT ELECTJOHNL@AOL.COM

I too get the FATAL ERROR THING on shutdown. That is why I rarely ever shutdown. I just put my pc to sleep and wake it up in the AM. Gateway has told me where to go(several clicks)to supposedly "fix" this problem and it DOES work for a while but then it goes back to the same old problem.I had to reload Win 98 due to ANOTHER problem and so I have lost all my records as to HOW to fix it even if only temporarily.ISN'T IT FUN??

I have the same problem after I install a cd-writer plus 8200 series HP.
The fatal exception error is 0E, Please help

I have win98 se and when I shut down my computer I get this Fatal Exception Error A FATAL EXCEPTION OE HAS OCCURRED AT 0028:BFF88112. THE CURRENT APPLICATION WILL BE TERMINATED
PLEASE HELP!!

I get the Fatal Exception error has ocurred at 17B7:00008FB3 everytime I try to shutdown Windows 98 SE. I get the blue screen and the only way to clear it is to just turn the machine off. Has anyone had any luck resolving this problem?
