Hi,

I am running a Packard Bell D135 mini-tower. The system is a P133 with 80MB ram, two modems, and aztech sound card. I am using Win98 2nd ed. as the O/S. About a month ago, I started getting a Fatal Exception Error at 0167:BFF9DFFF. Sometimes it is a blue screen of death, other times it is just a crash box. Whenever the message occurs, the sound starts to pulse a wave file and the system locks down. I can not pinpoint what is causing it. If I disable the sound card or disable wave files in the multimedia control panel the problem disappears. Then of course, my kids can't play their computer games. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks for your help,
Paul

i added some extra ram to one of my test pc's and was using winamp when this error
came up, the same as you described, and this
happened every time i opened winamp and clicked play. so i removed the extra 128mb dimm that i had added and the problem went away. Might be a memory problem.
try removing some of the ram you have, if possible or borrow a mates ram and try it instead. hope this helps!

I was plagued with this error, and was about ready to reformat.
Downloaded System Mechanic from http://www.iolo.com
It was like a miracle. System is working like a new one. IT's not free, but comes with 30 day trial.
Will clean your system registry, find and remove junk and obsolete files and find and fix broken shortcuts.
Definitely worth a trial !

HELLO EVERYONE! HOPE THE FOLLOWING MSG WILL HELP.
I USUALLY GET THIS MSG WHEN OPENING UP MS WORD. DOESN'T HAPPEN IN ANY
OTHER APPLICATION BUT WORD. "KERNEL32 CAUSED A GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT
IN USER.exe" OR "FATAL OE 0167:BFF9DFFF." ALSO WORD LOCKS UP WHEN OPENING
,WHEN YOU CTRL-ALT-DEL, A MESSAGE COMES UP SAYING THAT SYSTEM IS DANGEROUSLY
LOW ON RESOURCES. SYSTEM RESOURCES ARE FINE. UNINSTALLING AND REINSTALLING
MS WORD DOESN'T HELP. EVEN FORMATTING DOESN'T HELP. THE BEST THING THAT
I HAVE FOUND TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM IS BY RUNNING A SEARCH FOR AND DELETING THE FILE "NORMAL.DOT."
ALSO RUN THE FULL THOROUGH VIRUS SCAN. THE PROBLEM IS A CORRUPTED BLANK
TEMPLATE THAT WORD OPENS AS DEFAULT WHEN STARTING THE PROGRAM. IT IS
OFTEN CORRUPTED BY A VIRUS, AND SO THE NEED FOR THE SCAN. WHEN WORD OPENS BACK UP IT WILL HAVE TO AUTOMATICALLY RECREATE THE FILE AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IT WILL NOT BE CORRUPTED. THIS FIXES MY PROBLEMS 99% OF THE TIME. I HELP A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE.
