Well, it's November 1998 and I am getting this same fatal exception (0E in Vxd Vmm(01)) Did anyone who has had the problem fix it?

One thing I also get is the blue screen with Fatal exception 0E at 0028:xxxxxxx
and no Vxd info-- but a message saying "current application will terminate" -- I press enter to find a black screen. If I find a window, I can drag it over the screen and "re-paint/re-fresh" what was there before the crash.

I feel like it started right after installing IE4 in W95 sr2.. In fact, I re-formatted and re-installed W95.. AND IE4 (unknowingly re-creating exactly what I had-- not knowing it might be IE4). So, I upgraded to w98 thinking it would solve my problems.. but I still get the crashes.

I have:
AMDk6 233, 64 megs ram (4 sticks), ATI all in wonder pro 8meg pci, soundblaster 16 (old long card from my old 486), Umax 610s scsi scanner, zip par port drive, toshiba 24x cd, mitsumi 4x8cdr.. (maybe others with same problem will find a link/connection here???)

The only good thing about these crashes is that it has prompted me to go to all the websites to get the latest drivers and patches (with me hoping it would finally solve the problem)--

Also-- I can get this crash just a few minutes into a cold boot, so I do not believe it is heat/fan related.

I have pulled memory out and gone with 32megs instead of 64 and still have crashes (switching pairs to try each set)-- I will borrow some and try these physical memory tests more-- I have also heard that if it is hardware, it could be my simm slots... well, I will troubleshoot this more--

Since I feel there may be an IE4 connection-- maybe IE4 is accessing or using it differently than pre-IE4?

It was suggested that I re-format again and go with a %100 fresh Win98-- which will prevent any old IE4 win95 overlay problems... 1- this is a pain and 2-a super pain if it doesn't fix the problem.

Any info would help..

Thanks,

Casey

i'm thinking...in order for you ease your mind of the ie4 deal....do an fdisk and then delete all partitions, then recreate them, reboot, do a format c:/s...then put the os back on..i've had oe's from bad mem, corrupted registry, cpu not being jumpered right...keep trying...

Sad but true: whoever advised you to do a "clean" install of Win98 has the right idea. If you installed Win98 over an already problematic Win95, Win98 will most likely inherit some bogus settings of the previous OS (registry and .ini file entries, etc.). As hateful as it sounds, to stop your existing problems from migrating to your new OS, you *should* do a clean install of '98.

memory i believe is the culprit. also what voltage power supply do you have, 200, 230, 250. anything lower than that (250) can and will give you problems with all those devices.

I used to have fatal exception 0E with my Windows 98. I read some of the posting on Computing.Net and somebody suggested that 0E refer to display adapter problem. So I remove my display adapter driver (which I downloaded from Internet) and make use of the one provided by Windows 98 instead. Now the Windows 98 is working just fine.

So I would suggest you to check your display driver from Control Panel and see if your display driver is from manufacturer or not. If so, you could change the driver to the one from the original Windows 98. (It seems that Installing Windows 98 will not upgrade your display driver by default, as in my case)

I get the fatal exception OE error when using IE 3.0 and on the internet. I installed IE 4.0 thinking it may fix the problem, but it didn't. Sometimes I can be on the internet for 30 minutes and never get it, other times I reboot and it does it repeatedly. I've concluded it's not in the IE, but haven't gone to the extend you have reinstalling everything (I'm still running WIN95)
