What's up with this? It only happens at shutdown and sometimes the Please Wait...Shutting Down screen just hangs?

Something might be running in the background, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to see running tasks. If it's a virus scanning program, set it's options to only check floppies on access, uncheck the run, rename, create and other scan options. It'll still scan the mbr and memory on bootup and you can manually scan things when needed.
If it's something like Fix2000, Nuts&Bolts, FirstAid, etc, trash them.
