Comment:

I have an Toshiba Infinia 7200 multimeidia machine. I recently lost the the harddrive. I installed a new HD and attempted to run the factory recovery cd to restore the system to factoy specs. I get a "wrong machine" message. I've been told that my recovery cd may be corruted. Need to get a working copy of this software.

Usually the hard drive has a hidden partition which is used in conjunction with the Toshiba Recovery CD. That is the problem with OEM PC's you do not get an O/S Disk........

This system was built in 1996. No special partitions. The recovery cd was the ultimate backup.

The message (if that's exactly what it says) does fit nicely with what orbital suggested.

Whatever, if you can't get a replacement CD from Toshiba then you need to search eBay (or somewhere) for a full W95 CD.

Sometimes copying faulty CD's works (surprisingly). Stick around, someone might have one that could be sent to you but I don't fancy your chances too much.

Orbital,

Toshiba no longer supports this product build. Even a registered service center contacted Toshiba about this error. Toshiba said that the need for a DMI file on the motherboard is not needed (1996), yet I get this message for a process developed for a much newer machine. I need the original specially programmed recovery cd and floppy sent with each machine at purchase. I susspect though that I may get the same results. I'm also looking for a Win98 First Edition cd. The Toshiba web site lists a procedure to run all of the software using Win98. Any suggestions?
