EZ Cd Creator conflict and Safe mode issues

September 26, 2011 at 22:29:07
Specs: Windows 7
My Windows 98 PC is unable to start windows as i recieve a "The 32bit device driver CDRPWD(01) + 0000AD23 has attempted to use a system service which is not loaded." error. I am also unable to get into Safe Mode via the F8 key as my keyboard entries are not registering during the option process (strange). Is there anyway i can delete or change the EZ Cd Creator file from my windows register so my PC is able to boot up Windows successfully. Thanks in advance.

One site says to hit ENTER a few times and it'll go ahead and load. If your keyboard isn't responding and it's USB then use a PS/2 instead. Then uninstall that EZ cd creater crap. Use Nero--an older verson like 5.5.

Several sites say to rename cdrpwd.vxd in WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS to cdrpwd.old (so it doesn't load). You can do that by booting from a bootdisk if F8 still doesn't work. (Probably the easiest and best solution.)

Check # 3 here:

but his link to the other version is no longer any good.

Were you previously able to boot and then use Easy CD Creator? Do you know what version you have installed. Provide more details about when this started and what you did just prior to it starting.

I have to disagree with DAVEINCAPS on this one. IMO in its heyday that was a better burning program than Nero. That said, there were issues when installing the wrong version for your OS.

EZ cd creator came bundled with the first two burners I bought--a 4X and then a 10X; Acer I believe. I always had problems with burning speed and bad recordings. I bought something called 'click and burn' and it worked a lot better. A few years later I was putting together a lot of PCs with burners I bought new. They came with Roxio (EZ cd creator's successor) or Nero. I never really used Roxio myself but it seemed more complicated than Nero. The bundled burner software only worked with the particular model it came with but I did find one Nero disk where they slipped up and allowed it to work with other models so I've been using that ever since.

Anyway, the Nero I used was several years newer than the EZ so maybe it's not fair to compare them (and maybe their newer stuff was better) but it's nothing I would use again even on an older system.

Behold the beauty of the Wayback Machine, the page loads but unfortunately the file itself was not archived, which is quite unusual. I'm usually able to download archived fies from the Wayback Machines, and that page underwent frequent updates in 2001 so it's likely the crawler didn't have enough snapshots to archive it.

However, all is not lost, here is a copy on eBay, v5.1 and it is compatible with Windows 98. Likely very similar to v5.0, probably some bug fixes, etc.

Seems kinda high but I guess the older versons may be hard to find. The OP may be interested if he plans on sticking with that brand.

Well, there is no sign of the OP since the initial post so I think this thread is dead for the moment.
