How do I extract RPCRT4.DLL from my windows 98 setup disk? Does it have something to do with CAB files?

Go to Start/Run and type SFC (System File Checker). Follow the directions and put it in c:\windows\system. You don't need to know this, but it's in the win98_38.cab file.

Put your 98 disk in.

Go to - Start - Run - Type "sfc" in the Open Box screen

Click "Extract one file from installation disk"

type the rpcrt4.dll

have it put the new copy in your systems folder and let it over write it.

you can find and extract files in the windows cdrom cab files this way:

-rightclick the win98 folder of the cdrom
-click search
-go to the field "Containing text:"
-type the EXACT name and extension
-(in this case RPCRT4.DLL
-now the cab file with the file in it is found

Folks seem to use sfc with gay abandon. To start with it will only restore "original" CD files.

If the file gets updated (and RPCRT4.DLL does) then you are likely to make matters worse by putting an old copy back. If you must try this, then make sure you first ask sfc to save a copy of the one you are replacing.

Time to submit this link again (there's a lot of stuff about sfc's mistakes on the net):
