Everytime I boot up Windows (98) I get an error message saying explorer.exe has caused a page fault in module shell32.dll, which causes my pc to become a 'dud' - nothing works except msn messenger (which pops up automaticly at start up), windows media player (which you can access via msn) and the internet (which you can also access via msn).
I have tried bootimg up the pc in safe mode, but the problem still occurs, however, in safe mode i can run other programs. I have run Ad-Aware, Spy Bot S&D and AVG anti-virus and removed all spyware/adware (my pc was virus-free).
I have also tried booting up in MS-DOS mode and overwriting shell32.dll and explorer.exe with the windows 95 ones. When I did this loads of programs failed because of missing .dlls attatched to the old shell32.dll. I the tried the Windows 95 explorer.exe and the origional win 98 shell32.dll - the result being explorer.exe caused a page fault in explorer.
I then replaced both the explorer.exe and shell32.dll files back with the origionals in MS-DOS mode.
So I'm back where I started with explorer.exe causing a page fault in shell32.dll.

Any Tips? There needed desperately!
Thanks,

Jake

It's a very general one and could be various things. Put "explorer.exe has caused a page fault in module shell32.dll" in Google there are a lots of hits and a few fixes. Try Google "Groups" too.

Otherwise it looks like an overlay of Windows is probably the best way forward (you'll not loose your own stuff and it usually goes quite well).
