Hi

I'm using internet explorer 5, image files- jpegs, gifs etc won't show unless i right click "Show picture". My "Show picture" (internet options > advanced) checkbox is ticked so thats not the problem...

i think this problem may have been caused by an agressive website (a search engine added itself to my homepage & filled my favorites folder full of junk). I cleaned up all the mess it made, but if it was responsible for disabling pictures how do i fix it?

Would updating my Internet explorer do the trick?

If i manage to fix the problem i'll post how here (i imagine i'm not the only one with this problem)

You could try the old faithful:

Go to Control Panel/Add-Remove and double click the entry for "Microsoft IE & Tools". If you get a Repair option go for it.

What OS?

thx Tufenuf, i've tried everything except from re-installing windows without any noticable success. I'll dig out my win 98 disk in a few days, in the mean time i'll train a monkey to manually reveal all my pictures.

thank you both for your fast & useful advice

Tim,
If you are running a firewall ,such as Zonealarm ,that can block images from loading. If "yes" try shutting off or disabling your firewall and try your Internet Explorer again.

While you are looking for inspiration (I well know the feeling) you could always try the other "asprin" which is:

"Shut down" to MS-DOS and type scanreg /fix (hit Return) which will rebuild your registry. Type exit (hit Return) to restart Windows. None too confident it will help unless the registry has got twisted, but like IE Repair it is harmless and sometimes works wonders.

No, the problem isn't caused by a firewall. (i've tried ending every non essential task). It was working fine until i encountered the hostile search engine/links page.

Derek: Thx for the suggestion, but all it did was make a 10 second timer before entering windows

It won't let me access some web pages (such as my hotmail inbox). I'll copy the error messages details here in case in provides some strange, mysterious insight to my problem =)
