If you are having problems with Windows 98 Explorer giving strange and mysterious errors then I think I know what is wrong. I was experiencing "Explorer has performed an Illegal Operation" errors quite often. The source of my problem was my system BIOS having an incompatibility with SDRAM. I check my Motherboard's site and they had an update that fixed this. After patching the BIOS I have had NO problems at all :) Call your System's Tech Support and ask them where to get an update for your bios. That is probably the source of the problem.

Whenever i start up my computer a few error things pop up saying that i have missing files or missing dll files. I have recently gotten rid of a virus on my computer and i hate to delete a few files that couldn't be cleaned. Just email me back with some solutions or fixes that i can do to get rid of my problem.

Anyone looking for a bios upgrade could try the following link

as it lists motherboards by manufacturer.

I too had the Explorer.exe Page fault problem in Windows 98. It was a registry problem. I fixed the problem by starting my computer in DOS mode (hold F8). Go to C:\windows\command\scanreg.exe and restore a backup registery from a date before this problem occured.

My Win 98 Explorer seems to "discover" a fault, which causes my whole taskbar with all loaded "Start Minimised" program icons to disappear. I have re-installed 98 twice, and un-installed several programs that I thought were causing the fault - to no avail. Can anyone suggest how to fix this?
Thank you.

I can't start my computer. Comes up with Explorer caused error in Explorer.exe. Anyone have any ideas? Should I just go into dos and rename the old explorer file and reinstall from disk? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
