When visiting several sites, I get an 'Explorer: This program has caused an illegal operation and will be shut down.' error. In details it says: Explorer caused a general protection fault in module USER.exe at 001c:000013b8 I know internet explorer isn't explorer. but the problem appears while using IE. I tried to goto Add/remove progs in control panel, click on remove internet explorer and tools, and then click on 'repair internet explorer'. I also tried to run a throughout scandisk in ms-dos mode (because It had problems running in windows: illegal error - will be shut down) - That scan didn't find HD problems. I also tried to update my NAV (latest virus definitions) and scan the HD (all files) - no viruses found. One more thing I tried was to erase all of the temporary internet files and temp folders in windows. All of that didn't help. Please tell me what could it be and what to do... I appriciate your help, -Dan.

I found that Defragging the harddrive and updating the Video drivers seems to help. I am very frustrated with the error to. It's annoying.

I have the same problem. The error pops up every time I go to a website with Java. I tried reinstalling IE but that didn't help. Someone suggested just disabling Java, but I dont really want to. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please help!
