Explorer hangs up repeatedly

Explorer hangs up and forces me to close all Explorer windows. Seems to often happen after I have opened some files (.txt, .doc, .xml,...) and then closed one. Also when I am dragging a file from one folder to another. Typical message is something like:

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module <unknown> at 0000:01bb32f4.

Some background: I have been trying to install an extra hard drive, so far unsuccesfully, and to fix/simplify my registry. One of the registry "Fixers" I ran I think "fixed" something it should not have - but I don't know what.

If it hasn't been too long you may be able to perform a registry restore. Look here for instructions on restoring the registry. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q22...

Invalid page fault errors are often caused by bad or low memory. Here is a good doc for fixing:
