Clickable and opens in a new window.Pieter,
Have you performed this change yourself?
If so, do you comprehend what is meant by
"In a nutshell, what you've done is re-installed the older version of Windows Explorer while keeping all of your Internet Explorer browser features."Is that Windows 95?
Bryan

Pieter, I am really grateful that you posted that fix. It's been driving me crazy for many months.
Bryco, I just installed it and it worked like a charm. Those DLL files are apparently Windows Explorer (or a large part of it).And a big 'thank you' to Frank for coming up with the fix! He should get a medal.

Can't say I've noticed these problems (yet) on my W98SE with IE6.1
Alway nice to collect these ideas although I wonder about any security implications.
Thx for info.

I've heard about the problem and the fix before, but had never seen a web page devoted to it before - thanks for that. It's been an issue since ie 6 came out, perhaps the oddest thing is that some never have it happen and for others this fix is the only relief. MVPs have promised to look into it - nothing yet but this 'fix'.
Security implication concerns are well founded but one can go the extra mile and get BROWSEUI.DLL from the latest cumulative ie update for ie 5.50 SP2 and cover that base at least. Browselc.dll is not in the cumulative update so I assume it's good to go as is. Mine is at base 5.50.4807.2300 version while updated Browseui.dll is at 5.50.4936.2300 on this ie 5.50 SP2 box so we should be safe enough if we take the extra step?
WinZip will extract the files from cabs and/or updates and you can get the updates from the Windows Update Catalog site.

After a month of thinking about it I finally tried the 'fix'.
It did nothing to speed up deleting files on my machine (Win98SE and IE6sp1). They still take the 4-5 seconds that they did before.I did notice the it caused me to lose the ability to 'Lock the toolbars' in IE.
I have now changed things back to the way they were using the IE6 files.
Too bad though.
Bryan

I followed Frank's suggestions:
http://www.frankprovo.com/win98ie6filesproblem.htm- easy to install (a few minutes), saving hours of waiting time! Works fine at my PC.
Thanks!Thomas

"saving hours of waiting time!"
Mine only takes 4-5 seconds to empty the recycle bin versus actually hanging up.
Maybe I was trying to fix a problem that I didn't have?Quoting from Frank's page:
Is this your problem?:Windows hangs, locks up, or goes slow after I delete large numbers of files.
OR
Windows hangs, locks up, or performs sluggishly after I delete large files, such as video clips and mp3's.
OR
Windows hangs or locks up when I empty the Recycle Bin.
End of quoteBryan
