no, an exe file is a program executable file. If you have the source code and a compiler you can alter the source code and re compile (a make file) and you'll have alterd the exe file. only way

Editing files with logview.exe. If you have the CD version of Windows 98, there is a utility which will let you edit your Scandisk, Callog, Modemdet, and Ndislog files. This program is called Logview. On the CD, it can be located in the \Other\Misc\Logview and can be left on the CD, or put on your hard drive.
Regards
Eddie
but for which actual type of exe file?

You can alter binary files with Debug, but it is difficult to use because there is so little good documentation on it.

G'day Sinisa, it depends on what you want to edit. If you would like to edit dialog box text [strings] and reposition them or menu items, icons, bitmaps, cursors etc.. that are embedded in these files then you need a Resource editor. You can also edit .dll, cpl,.ocx and other file types as well.
There are several around now and you can get some of these from Winfiles.com.
My favorite one is Exescope which I'm not sure if I ever mentioned here before or not but that is a shareware program but Borland has one [Workshop] and Symantec [Resedit] as well but these don't always open certain .exe's
You might want to get Reshacker [free] from Winfiles to start with and always backup any file you with to modify first.
