My friend has Windows XP Home Edition and his .exe and .com file associations were deleted. I can't open command.com, regedit.exe, notepad.exe, .reg files, or system restore. His computer didn't come with any backup CDs. What can he do?!

orangutang, Go to the link below and download the "Fixswen.inf" file to a floppy disc then transfer the floppy to the problem computer and run it. Save the fixswen.inf file to your local hard disk (in this case the floppy disk), right-click on the file and choose install.

" Setup INF file to undo registry changes made by W32/Swen@MM and other threats that prevent REGEDIT, BAT, COM, EXE, PIF, REG and SCR files from running".

It has worked well for many others with the same problem.

Fixswen Tool

Note: If the problem computer can access the Internet just have your friend download it and run it.

HTH,
Tufenuf
