This is a Blue Screen fo death. Vxd Vfat errors usually are faulty memory chips. You might want to try a new RAM.

I am getting the same "Blue Screen of Death". The ram has been replaced and the problem still exist. The operating system is Windows 98 Second Edition. My processor is an AMDk-7. There are 128 megs of ram on the system board. I also get the Fatal Error OE and Fatal Error OE, with vxd vfat (01) error.
Is the anyone out there with another resolution?

First try setting all bios setting to default.Maybe your ram speed is not correct. If that doesn't solve it,and you've tried alternate strips of ram in alternate slots(synchronice slots on some motherboards allows u to insert any strip,in any slot,or combination of slots, therefore u don't always have to insert in slot 0 only). Finally, if thats not it,then U probably have a bad bridge or hub on the internal motherboard, so you may have to return it to the retailler or manufacturer. If u can get it running long enough to load the INF, BUS, or IRQ routing drivers that might be a long shoot fix. Good Luck!!

Same problem occured after I replaced a 3DFX graphics card with a Matrox Millenium G400. System shows this error when it is processing the contents of 'StartUp'. I got my machine working again by holding down the shift key, which prevents 'statup' from being processed. My system hangs whilst loading the MS Office Shortcut Bar so I'm guessing that this is causing my problem. I have had this problem before and the only resolution I could find was to completely reload the machine. If I can find a more graceful solution. I'll let you know.

I hope this helps others with similar problems. I have finally fixed my problem with Exception OE error in VXD VFAT(01) and OD error in VXD VMM(01) in a fairly painless way. I 'bit the bullet' and performed a re-install of Win98SE, without first formatting drive C: . I just booted the machine from a Win98SE boot floppy and reinstalled from my hard drive (C:\Windows\Options\Cabs). All of my applications seem intact, and at the moment everything seems to be working. There was no indication that it was performing any kind of 'safe' recovery except that it did ask if I wanted to save system files in order to uninstall later. I saved my system files. For info, my system is an AMD K7-700/384Mb PC100 SDRAM/20Gb IDE HDD/Chaintech Motherboard/ 32Mb ATI Rage Fury 128 + 12 Mb Voodoo 2. To reiterate, my Exception OE errors relating to VMM & VFAT VXD's (Virtual Device Drivers) started when I changed the graphics card for a Matrox Millennium G400 Twin Head.

Have the same exception error as above, I have tried reloading with several different combinations, sometimes it seems like it is fixed, but on about the 6th or 7th boot, the problem comes back. I haven't tried new RAM yet, but I think this problem is a killer.

Hey guys, this error is usually due to bad ram - I work with tech support and in my experience it's almost,(ALMOST) always a faulty memory module.

I have the same error msg. I had problems with the 98 upgrade, so i decided to do a full installation of 98SE. I decided to 'deltree' the win95 dir through dos. then i installed 98SE. Then i reinstalled all of my program files, etc. First i kept getting a fatal OE at VXD MSTCP (a lan promlem). then i fixed that, and now i get this VFAT error. My ram was never a problem before, and i have the same PC, just a new OS. Do you still think it is the RAM?
