I am getting the message ""an exception error has occurred at 0028c113CFD& in VXD CDFS (£)+00008253 this was called from0028 : C119D004 in VXD CDFS(03)+00008550"". Has anyone got any ideas, this pops up quite frequently when using various applications and does not seem linked to one specific application / program or action. I have been informed that this could be the display drivers on my machine and intend to update all drivers accordingly, but I would like to know what the message means ou of interset. Especially the CDFS(03) part of the code as I believe this points to the faulty / suspect device.

The "OE" errors generally seem to be Win9x code for a fatal memory error caused by a driver. In your case the driver causing the error is CDFS.VXD -- this is a standard Win9x driver (OEM2 version is dated Aug 24, 1996 with a size of 59,129 bytes). I would suggest trying to replace this driver, but it very well could be another file/program calling this driver incorrectly that is causing the problem.

I have seen the OE and OD errors many times and generally it has been network driver related. The fix has been to delete all of the network components and then re-install using updated drivers off diskette rather than the original Win9x media.

Sorry I don't know what the CDFS.VXD file does specifically but given the name, my first guess would be something related to the CD reader. Finding out what this file is would give you a real good starting point to determine what is causing the problem.

Also, had you made any changes to your PC -- new hardware or software -- just before the error started? Another good place to start if yes. I always suggest using a registry backup tool (ERU comes with Win95) to backup the registry before any new stuff is added. That way you can always go back to a known working state.

For earlier post:
CDFS.VXD is a standard Driver for Win9x to acces the CD file system (hence the CDFS)... Upgrading to another is possible, just look for CDFS.VXD on any downloadsearcher....

Anyone have an idea for the 06 on 013F:0000007C as a general exception fault?
-
To answer earlier post: the exception fault OE and 0D made by explorer.exe in addressrange 0000.0000 - 0000.00FF is for any filesystem or caching structure (according to the knowledgebase)...

Good luck all!
