Please Help, I'm in trouble:
What can cause the following Win95 error:
(exist of application)
An exception 0E has occured at 0028:C001969E in VxD IFSMGR(01)+000038FE.
This was called from 0028:C0050FFB in VxD NDIS(01)+00006733.

(retrieve of data from AS/400)
Also another (in same environment): A fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:C002592B in VxD IFSMGR(01)+000036DF

Configuration:
Win95
Client Access of IBM (Access to AS/400 Graphical)
Uniface

Only solution to avoid error (and crash) is to uninstall Client Access. Need Client Access!!

I had the same problem. However it was aggravated by the fact that I received 0028-error message in all possible VXDs. I could hardly load or quit windows without this message.
I have a very speedy hard disk and as I believe my chips were not able to read through the addresses in a propper way.
I enabled manual configuration and decreased chips' performance in CMOS in other words I slowed them down. The problems gone. It is difficult to give recommendations which positions should be changed. One should test on his/her own depending on the machine.
Be cautious changing your CMOS and apply this recomendation on your own risk.
All responces on positive results are welcomed.

May be with the network card.
If Fast Etherlink, PCI steering and it are sharing an IRQ.

I had that problem, although it was called from a different VXD. It seemed to occur mostly when using Tribal Voice's Powwow, but did occur intermitantly otherwise. I removed TCP/IP and reinstalled it from my Win95 CD. So far the problem has not reoccured. If you need instructions to do this feel free to e-mail me.

Usual cause on fatal Installable File System Manager .vxd
Can be due to HP scanner, NEC Multisync Monitor, MS World Atlas '96 et al.
To resolve this behaviour on HP, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
3. In the Named box, type vhpscand.vxd, and then click Find Now.
4. If the Vhpscand.vxd file is located in the Windows\System folder, right-click the Vhpscand.vxd file, and then click Cut.
5. Right-click the Windows\System\Iosubsys folder, and then click Paste.
6. Restart your computer.
NEC Monitor - remove the monitor
Atlas
To resolve this problem, do the following:
1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System, and then click the Device Manager tab.
3. Double-click CD-ROM, and then double-click your installed
CD-ROM device.
4. On the Settings tab of the CD-ROM Properties sheet, clear
the check box next to the Disconnect option.
5. Click OK or Close.
6. Restart your computer when you are prompted.
Encarta World Atlas should now start properly.

I have had this same issue... I run W95 in a 266MHz K6 (NOT K6-2)box ... everything was fine and dandy until I installed (or had installed) a 10/100 ethernet card when the cable modem service was started. Now, when running Netscape 4.51 I will intermittently get these errors, usually requiring me to restart the entire system since it cuts out the entire NIC link... it is like data is just sent into limbo never to return after the fatal version of this error. I will get IFSMGR.VXD errors, NDIS.VXD and the ever friendly ___.VXD (just space, no name, other than .vxd).

It is getting frustrating and I am beginning to get the idea that Windows 95 just does not like to play well with NIC cards!

HELP PLEASE!

My error message is slightly different. "An exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0018482 in VxD IFSMGR (01) + 000038FE. This was called from 0028:C1007FEC in VxD PPPMAC (01) + 00004610." This occurs with increasing frequency when I try to send a message in Netscape 4.5 using Windows 95. I have to shut down the machine and start over.

I have the same problem. After installing Netscape 4.61, whenever I send more than one message, the fatal exception blue screen comes up with and OE referring to VxD error in IFSMGR(01) and I end up having to shut down the whole computer. Any help on resolving this would be greatly appreciated as uninstalling and reinstalling Netscape many times in many different ways has not helped.

At Netscape's site, I found the following posting. I followed its advice and my blue screen IFSMGR problems (exception 0E in VxD IFSMGR(01)) seem to have gone away. Please note that this may not solve everyone's problems. Please note that the current version of the Windows Socket 2 Update is available from Microsoft:

I get a fatal exception 0E at 0028:C0019E02 in VxD in IFSMGR(01)+0000340A. This was called from 0028:C1F2D0CC in VxD PPPMAC(04) +00007AE4. Blue Screen crash can be cured by reboot to "c:\" prompt and deleting the Temporary internet files (cookies) in folder \content.IE5 I would appreciate help in identifying the driver causing this fault.

I just had a run-in with this problem tonight, actually, while reconfiguring a LAN to access a shared internet connection.

When I rechecked my settings, I discovered that I had unbound TCP/IP from everything. I re-bound it to the Microsoft Login and now the error has disappeared.

Strange software, this Windows.

Mine were

0028:C001B942 in VxD IFSMGR(01) +000038FE, called from
0028:C00455E4 in VxD NDIS(01) +00008660

I think the folks getting it from PPPMAC are using dialup. I'm using DSL.

Next one was:

0028:C96236C6 in AFVXD
Application [Netscape 4.61] will be terminated. [It wasn't; but the crash wasn't long in coming.]

Now then, I've been running this 4.61 since it came out and have not had this problem until 2 days ago. Getting my email is usually fatal now and sometimes roaches the email. This is coincident with NOTHING new on my computer.

So what could do this? What are these calls for? Finding out is WAY difficult.

One BSOD came up when I pasted a URL into the NS Location box. A couple from clicking Back or Forward. But mostly it's the email.

What could've happened? None of the items in this thread apply to me. Have ws2.2, bound TCP, etc., etc.

Besides, it just started happening 2 days ago. But it's WAY too consistent today.

I am getting the same problem as Malcom in response number 14.

You are right in saying that those getting the PPPMAC error is a dialup one. But i am getting exactly the same problem, any suggestions on sorting this problem?

Many thanks

I have a dialup connection. This error started showing up afew weeks ago, but now shows up repeatedly, restarting used to make it stop, but now sometimes everything locks up and I have to power off.
What is the solution?

I frequently get the message, a fatal exception 0E has occured in 0028:C001BC5B in VXD 1FSMGR (01) + 000036DF. I get some others but this one is the most frequent. It only happens when I am online and does not happen always. We have tried everything to correct it and nothing is working. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My beloved blue screen (scream?) says:

An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C001B1CE in VxD IFSMGR(01) + 000035BA. This was called from 0028:C100CE38 in VxD PPPMAC(01) + 00004570. It may be possible to continue normally...

I can continue, but can no longer send email.
From my limited research on the 'net about this error, I found some information in the Microsoft Database. The exact numbers given in an "exception" or "fatal exception" error will depend on your memory configuration. However, I infer that the essential information isn't in the exact numbers, which are the memory location numbers, but rather the program running there that is affected and the program that originates the call. So the file manager system IFSMGR is where the error is occurring. The PPPMAC program is originating the error. I don't know what a MacIntosh program is doing on my computer.... just kidding. PPPMAC seems to be a program used with dial-up connections.

My configuration: Pentium I, 133 MHZ,
32M RAM, Netscape 4.75, Windows 95 4.00.95

Problem occurs often, but not always, when
trying to send email from Netscape. The mail usually does not arrive at its destination, but a copy of the mail does get into my "Sent" folder anyway. (Netscape is a liar-liar-pants-on-fire.) Am I losing my mind on this blue scream business? Uh-huh, yup, you betcha, #%^&*$#.

Help, please. Is it Netscape's fault? TCP/IP? I will try to install the new Netscape 6.0 but this might make it worse....
