Comment: My computer will not play event sounds. When I go to the control panel/sounds and try to test an event sound, I get the message that the sound card is in use - but I don't think it is. Any suggestions?

Reply: Have you gone into Control Panel--->System--->Device Manager and looked to see if your sound card drivers are properly installed (no red x's or yellow question marks there)? If so, you need to delete the drivers for the sound card out here, and then REINSTALL the drivers. Make absolutely sure you have your sound card installation disk with the drivers on them BEFORE you delete anything out. You may have to go to your sound card manufacturer's site and see if there is a downloadable update for your sound drivers. If you don't know what kind of sound card you have, you will find out about it under the driver listed here. If not, you may have to open your computer up and take a look at the sound card itself to see if the manufacturer is silk screened onto the sound card. Do not open your computer unless you know what you are doing and it does not void any warrenties that may be in effect. If you are still having problems, you may have to pull the card OUT of the computer, let Windows do a re-detect, shut the system down again, insert the card back in, let the computer do a re-detect and re-install the drivers. First tho, I would check to see if your drivers are properly installed to begin with before tearing into your computer. It may also be an IRQ conflict or bad I/O setting. In order to find out more about what to do, consult the Microsoft Knowledge Base and look for an article on sounds. Each article in the MS Knowledge Base has a Q number. Goto http://www.microsoft.com and click on the black tabs above and find the Knowledge Base, go there, and do a search on Sounds.

Reply: Any computer seen on tv or on a movie generates event sounds very, very nice. Such as Matrix ( for example ), but I don't know if those sounds are unreal or if they can be activated. I refer to sounds related to events such as drag & drope, scrollbar up & down, etc. Events longer than normal or default events. If it is possible to enable the sounds for these events I want to know how can I do it. Give me some tips, please. p.d.I love computer or electronic sounds. Thanks a lot. Yours truly Victor M. Arias.
