Error running MSINFO32.EXE

Comment:

I tried running the MSINFO32.exe and I receive the error
messages:
"The MSCVRT40.DLL file is linked to missing export
KERNEL32.DLL:CompareStringA4."

and

"MSVCRT40.DLL

A device attached to the system is not working"

I thought the problem might be an older version of
kernel32.dll installed over the original when I downloaded
and installed a program so I extracted the original
kernel32.dll file from the cab file on my Win98 disk, but
that didn't fix the problem and now I'm stumped.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks... Lorene

When you downloaded what? It sounds like you are trying to run an NT version of MSINFO on Windows 9x, which won't work of course. Run System File Checker (Start-Run-SFC) to make sure you have not overwritten any important files.

I only reloaded the kernel32.dll from the disk and I never loaded anything dealing with NT on this computer. I have Win98 upgraded from Win95.

Do u have installed office pack ?
If so ms info would be overwritten and perhaps not start ..

To solve this find msinfo32.exe on win98 cd and copy it - then find msinfo on your harddisk and replace it ..

U might have to rename msinfo32.exe if u cant replace it - then paste - and u can delete ms info u renamed ..

Hope it works - my english is not so good -

Tah-dah!!! Thanks so much. It was the application itself that was corrupted. I found msinfo32.exe on the office disk and renamed it in my files then uploaded it from the disk. Ran the new file and it ran perfect so I deleted the old one and we're all set here. Thanks again!
