It's the same problem that another person posted on here last year. After loading a new network card and its associated applications and rebooting I get a message that says the file"z:vvineds.386" is missing. How do I get it back? Thanks -Brian

hi brian
i had the exact smae problem as you and i am wondering if you have solved it yet??? if so then please tell me!!!
thanks
michael

i have the same damned problem along with the
rpcss.exe emergency shutdown window appearing. the rpcss error is linked to visual studio, vvinesd.386 is coming out of nowhere. please keep me posted on this, and i am also writing to microsoft on help for this.

here's the solution i found listed at the
"windows weenie" site: complicated, and i haven't tried it--good luck
Click Start, Run, and REGEDIT. Click on plus signs beside of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD and
delete the folder named VVINESD.386. Reboot your computer and the
message will go away. If that isn't it, look in your system.ini file under the
section [386Enh] and put a semi-colon in front of the line that starts with
"DEVICE" and ends with "vvinesd.386". This will prevent it from loading in
the system.ini. The file VVINESD.386 is either being loaded from your
registry as a static VxD or it's in the system.ini as a 3rd party device
driver. Taking it out of BOTH places is necessary if it exists in both. Let me
know if you have any

IT keep showing up and I try to run regedit but it say what ever my components for that won't allow it to come up. Help Please!

Yes I too added a 3com net card and this hellish adventure began, but in my case I can't even get the MS logon screen. May 3com/Bill Gates suffer from the fleas of 1000 camels under their armpits.

It's the same problem of Brian Davis.
I get a message that says the file
"z:vvineds.386" is no longer exists.
can I get this file?

Can someone explain to me in lamen terms of how to get rid of this annoying z:vvinesd386
when I start up my computer. Im tired of it.
I dont know where this came from.
Thanks

Comments That appears to be a file needed to use a Banyan Vines network.
That presumes you have a network card and are attached to a Banyan Vines network.
If it is an old machine that is not on a network, that line could be edited out by putting a semicolon ; in front of the line referring to it in SYSTEM.INI . If you do need it to attach to a Banyan Vines network, check http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q123/8/77.asp
