It's the same problem that another person posted on here last year. After loading a new network card and its associated applications and rebooting I get a message that says the file"z:vvineds.386" is missing. How do I get it back? Thanks -Brian

here's the solution i found listed at the
"windows weenie" site: complicated, and i haven't tried it--good luck

Click Start, Run, and REGEDIT. Click on plus signs beside of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD and
delete the folder named VVINESD.386. Reboot your computer and the
message will go away. If that isn't it, look in your system.ini file under the
section [386Enh] and put a semi-colon in front of the line that starts with
"DEVICE" and ends with "vvinesd.386". This will prevent it from loading in
the system.ini. The file VVINESD.386 is either being loaded from your
registry as a static VxD or it's in the system.ini as a 3rd party device
driver. Taking it out of BOTH places is necessary if it exists in both. Let me
know if you have any

Yes I too added a 3com net card and this hellish adventure began, but in my case I can't even get the MS logon screen. May 3com/Bill Gates suffer from the fleas of 1000 camels under their armpits.

I read this solution and want to try it...but HOW do you add the semicolon?? Re: VVINESD.386 file

Comments That appears to be a file needed to use a Banyan Vines network.
That presumes you have a network card and are attached to a Banyan Vines network.
If it is an old machine that is not on a network, that line could be edited out by putting a semicolon ; in front of the line referring to it in SYSTEM.INI . If you do need it to attach to a Banyan Vines network, check http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q123/8/77.asp
