Error message in Outlook Express 6

I have a problem with Outlook Express 6 with SP1. It will open but will not send and receive mail. I get an error message when I click on a folder such as the Outbox. The message reads:
An unknown error has occured
Configuration Protocol NNTP Port 0 Secure(SSL) 0 Code 80004005
Now IE 6 works and I do have connection. I have knocked it backdown to Outlook Express 5 and 5.5. I have re-installed windows over the top of the OS. I have un-istalled and re-installed Outlook Express, and updated all patches. The properties of the connection seem to be fine. It has pop3 and smtp for the respective protocols for my ISP.
If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated…. Thanks, LT

If you don't mind losing all your Outbox messages ... Do a find for *.dbx (email files) Delete the outbox.dbx file It will be rebuilt by Outlook Express
Gary, do you think that this will solve the problem of program not sending or recieving mail? LT

I'm not sure LT. but if you only get that error when you select the outbox, it could indicate a corrupted file. I would start there and see what happens.

I would rename the folder vise deleting it.
Renaming it to outbox.xbd will accomplish the same thing but allow you to rename it back if it does not fix the problem.
