If windows works O.K. and just your internet browser is giving you pains. Try uninstalling
what ever version of I.E. your using and then reinstall it. The message should go away.

I answered your question before I saw all
of your other messages. You can try unistalling all of these programs and see
if after they are gone if windows will work right. I am betting it wont. You more than likely will find still more errors and at that point you are going to have to reload windows. Try a soft load first. That means
just reloading from within the windows environment. If that doesnt work you made need to format your HD, and reload your operating system. If your not sure how to do that E-Mail me and I will tell you how.

Explorer.
You have to clean up the registry by deleting the windows directory and reinstall a fresh set of windows. I will ensure you that it will work. Explorer will have page faults when some of it's system files are corrupted and/or a registy error.

The explorer general protection fault message is associated with the page fault messages. When one tries to connect with the micorsoft site and get the updated drivers as stated int the associated help filed in WIN 98 the site wil not allow access. We all need these drivers. Help to get thru. Thanks

I had this same problem, and I have even wiped my hard drive clean, ran F-disk, formatted and re-installed windows AND IE 5 and I STILL get the problem costantly to the point where I'm about to rip my hair out! it happens all the time it seems user.exe causes faults in EVERY program I run, from midi orchestrator plus to Front Page! I don't even want to use my computer anymore!

PS. It alyways seems to happen after a mysterious hang or "not for any reason" hard drive access.

I believe that 99% of these GPF's are caused by malfunctioning memory or memory that is mismatched or just no good at all.
I would try to change out the memory first.

Check for hot processor, malfunctionaing processor or RAM.

If a clean install still shows errors, then it has to be RAM or processor.

Background/System Config: AMD-K6-2/450, 64MB SDRAM, Win98SE, Matsonic 6260S mo'board w/ on-board Sound Pro audio (based on the
C-Media CMI8330 sound chip).

All had been fine forever. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I started getting 'EXPLORER caused a GPF in the module: CM8330.DRV' anytime I pressed the Windows Start button. Couldn't launch a single thing from the Start menu. Extremely frustrating.

I referred to the following MS Knowledge
Base article for details and suggestions:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q188/8/03.asp?FR=1

Basically, this article stated 'these error
messages can occur if your computer uses a
sound card based on the C-Media CMI8330
sound chip, or a modem that also uses the
C-Media CMI8330 sound chip'

The recommended resolution is to update some drivers for the sound card/chip/modem...

Using the links on that page, I connected to
the Matsonic Web site, downloaded drivers
for the on-board Sound Pro, followed their
procedure for updating the drivers, and I
got sound back, got access to my Start menu
back, etc. Much, much better.

There is also a link to the C-Media Web site,
the developers of the chip set.

I hope this helps someone...

greetings

I have been getting variously general protection faults : fatal exception errors : and this app has caused an invalid page fault--- generally in module KERNEL32.DLL. I am used to seeing XX has performed an illegal operation and will shut down.. but the previous 3 have totally disabled my system. I have a pentium clone with 32MB memory 2 8GB HDDs and not installed any new software for some time (system 18 months old). i have heard 3 solutions.. get a new pc... its your memory - add more - or run a mem check for bad ram.... reinstall windows.

What is the best solution as i cant afford a new pc or extensive pc techs an if i reinstalled windows.. would it overwrite everything i already have as some old software i dont have disks to reinstall for various reasons (mainly as friends used em and ruined them) or could i just copy a new kernell32.dll file to fix what seems to be the cause.. but i get all 3 every day in random sequences

thanks in anticipation.. Andy

IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REINSTALL WINDOWS when you receive these messages. TRUST ME, I get paid A LOT OF MONEY to fix problems like this EVERYDAY! Internet Explorer is intimately tied to many many areas of Windows. If possible, install the latest STABLE version of IE (by stable, I mean the one that already has the most service packs, not the latest and greatest version). If that doesn't work, check elsewhere for a solution before you reinstall. There are many other options, too many to list here, but reinstalling Windows should be a last last last resort. After all, if you had a blister on your toe, would you cut your leg off? I'm guessing not, at least I hope not. In the meantime, thanks for the laughs.
