dear sirs
No matter what floppy I put in my drive it won't write, indicating a
the floppy is "write protected" the floppy is not write protected
(I tried several) I used latest antiviralany suggestions would be great!

Howdy, Have ya tried cleaning the read/write heads with a cleaner kit? The floppy could have also just died, they do this over time. You also might want to pop the cover and make sure the ribbon and power cables are tightly connected. If you are 100% sure there is nothing wrong with the diskettes and one way to prove that is to try them in another system then there is a good change the floppy drive just died.
Laters,
Kevin The Tech Dude.

I'm having the same problem. I'm running Win98 SE, and everytime I try to write to the floppy, I'm getting the write-protect error message. I've checked the connections, replaced the drive, and replaced the ribbon cable, still no luck. What else can I try?

Same problem here, also using w98. I even tried the floppy drive into an other PC where it DOES work, so it couldn't be due to the drive dying on me, could it?

I, too, have the same problem. Didn't used to, so I even went out and bought a brand new floppy drive. SAME PROBLEM, even with new diskettes. Help!! What is going on??

Okay, my problem is solved. This is really dumb. I had recently upgraded my BIOS, and the setting in the "Integrated Peripherals" section set the FDC Write Protect to "Enabled." Simply disable and bingo! all back to normal. Why the default is enabled beats me!

I'm having the same problem, I replaced the floppy but it's still doing it. Any suggestions? This is really putting a cramp in my ability to work at home. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tryed the above, but still no go!
