Hi everyoneI just had an Epson stylus color 580 printer "communication error" or connection error and couldn't fix it for a year. This is a follow-up reply to the subject: 1or(2) more users connected. I tried the suggestions and nothing worked ... I found another site http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/printer/10/9461.html which provided the solution. Here is a quote from the site:
quote:
A "Service Error" where all "LED's/Lights" are blinking at the same time, or where you get an "Unknown Error Message", is normally a "WASTE INK PAD OVERFLOW ERROR". NORMALLY, ON MOST EPSON'S, WHILE THE PRINTER IS IN THIS ERROR CONDITION, IT DISABLES ALL OPERATIONS, INCLUDING DATA COMMUNICATION. ON SOME MODELS YOU CAN STILL USE THE "OPERATIONAL PANEL BUTTONS" SPECIFIED, TO CLEAR THE ERROR ONCE THE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED
SO HERE IS THE SOLUTION:1. Download the SSC Service Utility program for Epson stylus printers at http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml.
2. Run the SSC Service Utility program.
3. Click the configuration tab and select your printer model.
4. Right click the SSC Service Utility icon in your system tray.
5. Select the Protection counter menu and click Reset protection counter.
6. Click Yes - this should reset the ink counter to 0.
7. Turn off the printer by removing the printer power cord.
8. Run msconfig.
9. On the startup tab, deselect the Epson Stylus environment monitor and the other Epson startup items - uncheck the checkbox(es).
10. Restart Windows and turn the printer back on.
GOOD LUCK
