Hello Arnold,
I remember to have had that problem using a new scanner I wanted to input in my computer. I never success !!!!
I think problem is more hardware than software, but not for sure in your case.
If it's occured by an hardware you recently bought, better change it by another product maybe more compatible with your OS and machine. Remember some products don't reconize well your processor Pentium 4 yet....

One way is to put the picture into an HTML document and set the width and height to the size you want. Open it in your browser, take a screen shot, then paste in Paint Shop Pro. All you need do then is crop to the edges of the original picture and save. Providing you aren't trying to enlarge the picture too much, you won't get any noticable distortion. You should be able to enlarge by about 75% without any problems.

Im not familiar with paintshop pro but with fireworks.. Open the image for editing. Make the canvas size as large as you want the image to be then stretch the image.

It all depends on the quality of the image your starting with. If you stretch it and find it looks distorted most graphic editors have tools to smooth & correct imperfections.

Fireworks probably isnt the best graphics software but a fully functional 30 day trial is available from macromedia.com.

If the image is a JPEG (.jpg) file, you are out of luck. JPEG uses a very lossy type of compression- good for sending over slow dial-up modems because of the small file size. As for other file types, depends on the resolution at which the image was scanned. Even then, film will enlarge greatly (but film scanners = BIG $) but prints will not. The resolution is just not there. If you are really serious about imaging, read here, or better still buy his book. I did. Blew my mind!:

If you want to enlarge any picture just simply copy it and put it in microsoft word and go to tools format picture click the size tab and increace the percentage be sure the lock aspect ratio box is checked. More than likely if you use a paint program your pictures will be blurry. If you print the image in word the print out will look better on the paper than the screen.
