I've got a friend that wants to know when she hooks up a new computer and signs on to her AOL account for the first time on that computer, if all her previous e-mail messages will be there. I haven't used AOL in a while but I told her I thought e-mail messages were on AOL's server and when she signed on the first time, all her messages would be there on her new computer. True?

only her E-mail addresses buddy list and yet to ba poened mail will be there...it is posibble to save all her e-mail..
A. SAVE INTO A DISK
TO SAVE YOUR FILING CABINET ONE FOLDER AT A TIME, PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW:
1. Select MAIL icon on the AOL Toolbar.
2. Choose FILING CABINET.
3. Right-click on the folder in the PFC you wish to save.
4. Choose SAVE FOLDER AS.
5. Insert the Floppy disk. On the SAVE IN: field, choose 3 1/2 Floppy (A:)
6. Save the file as FOLDERNAME.PFC. (Where FOLDERNAME
will be the default name of the previous folder in your PFC.)
7. Click on SAVE.NOTE: If you would like to transfer the whole Filing Cabinet entries at once, all you need to do is to right-click on the Main folder that contains the file or saved mails. Then, do steps 4-7. If the file is too large to save into one disk, you can save it separately folder by folder using two or more disk as required.
If you wish to transfer the saved Filing Cabinet files to another computer with AOL software installed, please refer to the steps below.
NOTE: Do these steps on the computer where you would like to transfer the Filing Cabinet.
1. Insert the disk. Sign on to the AOL program.
2. Open the Filing Cabinet and drag it towards the side of your screen.
3. Click on FILE menu on top of the AOL screen.
4. Select OPEN.
5. On the LOOK IN: field, choose 3 1/2 Floppy (A:)
6. Double-click on the file which contains the saved Filing Cabinet entries.
7. On the window that will open, drag the folder that contains the saved file into the Filing Cabinet for it to be transferred.NOTE: To Drag, just place the cursor on the folder you wish to move then, press and hold the left-click button of your mouse. Without releasing the left-click button, drag the mouse so as to move the cursor to the place where the file/folder should be transferred.
This will take some time for it to be completely transferred especially if you have a large file transfered on this Filing Cabinet, please wait.
B. SEND THE FILING CABINET AS A FILE ATTACHMENT
TO SAVE YOUR FILING CABINET ONE FOLDER AT A TIME, PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW:
1. Select MAIL icon on the AOL Toolbar.
2. Choose FILING CABINET.
3. Right-click on the folder in the PFC you wish to save.
4. Choose SAVE FOLDER AS.
5. Choose the drive where you wish to save the Filing Cabinet from the SAVE IN: field.NOTE: If you wish to save the Filing Cabinet into a floppy disk, please insert it and from the SAVE IN: field, choose 3 1/2 Floppy (A:). If the file is too large to save into one disk, you can save it separately folder by folder using two or more disk as required.
6. Save the file as FOLDERNAME.PFC. (Where FOLDERNAME
will be the default name of the previous folder in your PFC.)
7. Click on SAVE.To attach the Filing Cabinet File into the mail:
1. Click on WRITE on the AOL toolbar.
2. In the Write Mail window, click on ATTACHMENTS.
3. Click on ATTACH.
4. In the LOOK IN: box, navigate to the folder on your computer that contains the file you wish to attach, click on the FILE, then click on OPEN.note: If you have saved the File on a disk, insert the Floppy disk then choose the 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) from the SAVE IN: field. Click on the file then click on OPEN and click OK.
5. If you wish to attach more than one file, repeat steps 3 through 4 for each file, then click on OK.
6. Compose and send your mail as usual.Send the mail to your own screen name. Then, open and download the file attachment at your home computer.
To download a file attached to e-mail you receive:
Sign on to the AOL screen name where you have send the mail with file attachment.
1. Click READ on the AOL toolbar and double-click a piece of e-mail with a file attachment.
2. Click Download Now.
3. In the Download Manager window, click Save.4. After successfully downloading, open your Filing Cabinet and drag it towards the side of your screen.
5. Click on FILE, then select OPEN. Select (C:) drive on from the LOOK IN: field.
6. Double-click on AMERICA ONINE 6.0 folder.
7. Double-click on DOWNLOAD folder.
8. Double-click on the file which contains the saved Filing Cabinet entries.
9. On the window that will open, drag the folder that contains the saved file into the Filing Cabinet for it to be transferred.NOTE: To Drag, just place the cursor on the folder you wish to move then, press and hold the left-click button of your mouse. Without releasing the left-click button, drag the mouse so as to move the cursor to the place where the file/folder should be transferred.
