e-machine shutdown

My e-machine 366i2 with Windows 98(Basic), will not shutdown. It goes into Restart everytime. Yes, I have Shutdown selected in the shutdown window. The message that its OK to turn-off the computer only momentarily appears before it goes into restart. Any ideas what could be causing this? It just started after 3 years of operation.

Gilbert, Prior to trying to shut down press the Alt/Ctrl/Del keys on your keyboard at the same time and post which programs are running. There may be a conflict with a program not closing which may be causing your problem.
