Comment:

How does one eliminate entries in drop down lists that occur when entering Web addresses, search engine searches, etc.? I have AutoComplete disabled in advanced options of IE5.0, but that doesn't seem to do it. Thanks.

Try emptying the cache, temp internet files and history.

That is a possibility, but I would rather edit the lists rather than start from scratch and lose all history. What files hold the lists and are they editable?

to edit the typed URL list in IE, launch REGEDIT. navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

in the right hand pane, you'll see the list of typed URL's named "url1", "url2", etc. right click on any one and select delete. you must now rename the existing entries so that the number of entries matches up with the last name in the sequence. got that? :)
for example, if there are 5 entries named "url1" to "url5", and you delete "url2", you leave a gap in the name sequence. so you need to rename "url5" to "url2" correcting the list to read "url1" to "url4". why do you have to do this, you may ask? well, IE doesn't like that gap in the sequence, so it won't display ANY URL's in the dropdown box, even though they ARE in the registry. also, the names don't necessarily have to be listed in numerical order. the changes should take effect the next time you launch IE.

It's possible to delete an individual entry which AutoComplete has remembered for you in a form, rather than clearing the whole lot.

To do so, double-click inside the text-field you want to remove the cached entry from. This will bring up a list of all entries for this text-field. Simply point to the one you want to remove and press the delete key.
