How can I search or edit the registry of an unbootable Win98 HD which is slaved to a WinXP Hard drive? The unbootable Win98 HD will boot to DOS & the root directory & other directories & files are all readable

Is it necessary to edit the registry while it's a slaved drive or would attempting to fix it so it boots to 98 and then editing the registry be a possible option? If so, describe the circumstances that made it 'unbootable'.
