What's the easiest way to transfer files from one computer to another? Do you need a special laplink cable and program?
You can use the Windows Direct Cable Connection utility which needs a crossover serial or a parallel cable. (If you don't have DCC installed -- look in Start/Programs/Accessories, you add it by Windows Add/Remove programs.
Actually a local area network (LAN) is the fastest way since it uses ethernet, but that takes a bit more to set up.

If you are talking about a constant day after day transfer of files from a laptop to desktop, Sony makes a really cool little gadget called a "MicroVault" its a USB storage media that requires no cables & uses the power supply of the USB Hub to supply power. Transfer files to the vault then plug the vault into other computer. Smallest is 16MB for $50, largest is 128MB for $300. I saw it a magazine by Micro Warehouse (warehouse.com)
